File Buddy 5.2 was primarily developed and tested using MacOS 8.5 and 8.6. It has also been tested to a more limited extent with MacOS 8.1 and System 7.6.1. There are currently no known compatibily issues with MacOS 8.5 and only one with 8.6 involving the online help. Users of MacOS 8.6 should read the file 'MacOS 8.6 and Online Help'.
Read the Known Problems section in the installed Read Me for a description of some minor issues in MacOS 8.1 and earlier releases of the system software.
Two contextual menu plug-ins have been added to the File Buddy install. 'Open in File Buddy' will open the current Finder selection in File Buddy as if the items were dropped on File Buddy. 'File Buddy CM' adds a File Buddy submenu with multiple commands to your contextual menus.
A 'File Buddy CP' control panel has been added to the install. It lets you open the Find window with Command-F, or whatever key you set in the control panel.
Finding duplicates requires less time.
The Make Alias window is no longer modal.
Controls (buttons, pop-up menus, and such) now enable when a window is active and disable when a window is inactive. This was not done in earlier releases because of the time required on slower computers to change the state of a large number of controls in windows such as the Info and Find windows. The speed issue is now outweighed by the desire for the correct behavior.
Fixes
Fixed a problem that would cause File Buddy to crash if the system folder was on a locked volume such as a CD.
Fixed a problem creating text versions of snapshot files which could cause some paths to be incomplete.
Some items in the Rename window were not being hidden initially if the last operation was anything other than Replace. Fixed.
Trying to open or reveal invisible items from a file list produces an alert asking if you wish to make them visible first. They were not being made visible, so whatever you were trying to do wouldn't work if it required the item to be visible. Fixed.
Identified and fixed some very small memory leaks that were introduced in earliest releases of version 4.
Every effort has been made to insure File Buddy is as reliable and stable as possible. Nevertheless, as with all software, you use File Buddy entirely at your own risk.
